What is Gastric Botox?

Gastric Botox is one of the non-surgical obesity treatments that is applied endoscopically and aims to slow down the stomach movements by injecting botulinum toxin to certain areas of the stomach at a certain depth. The aim is to create a feeling of satiety and reduce the feeling of hunger.

How is Gastric Botox performed?

Gastric Botox is a painless procedure where gastric botox injection is done by mouth with an endoscope. General anesthesia is not needed during the application of the procedure and this procedure is not considered a surgical intervention, as in other procedures for the treatment of obesity. This makes the applied method completely safe and reliable. The amount of botox applied to individuals varies according to the health status of individuals.

The gastric botox process, which lasts between 15 minutes and 30 minutes, does not cause any pain in the individual. Since this procedure is not a surgical intervention, there is no incision in the body of individuals. Since it is an oral method, the patient is discharged after being kept under observation for a few hours after the end of the procedure. Although anesthesia is not required in many patients, it may be preferred in some individuals. Although the question of how to apply gastric botox is fearfully curious, considering the method of application, it is quite safe.

Who is this for?

Gastric Botox is a method applied for those who have difficulty losing weight or who cannot control their weight due to genetics or other health problems. The reason why it is more preferred is that no surgical procedure is performed on the patient and no method is applied that may endanger the health of the individual. However, people to whom gastric botox will be applied must also meet some criteria. First of all, natural and healthy methods such as sports and diet and weight loss method should be tried. Because this way of losing weight is both more permanent and healthier than other methods. Stomach botox may not be suitable for individuals with severe obesity. In other words, this method may be insufficient in patients with a body mass index of 40 or higher. However, according to body mass index calculations, it is safe to apply stomach botox in individuals who are 10 or 20 kilograms more. In fact, studies have proven that the method is quite effective in individuals with a body mass index between 28 and 40.

Potential Risks and Side Effects

Those who have gastric botox start to see the effects of this method 2 to 3 days after the application. After 2-3 days of application of the method, a decrease and slowdown in the feeling of hunger of the individual is observed. After about 2 weeks, weight loss begins to occur and this process takes approximately 4-6 months. Because the effect of botox applied to the stomach ends in 4-6 months. Therefore, the method does not leave any permanent damage to the body. In addition, it is a known fact that botox applications used in both stomach and other parts of the body do not have any side effects.

It has not been encountered until today that gastric botox causes any side effects both in its application and in the following process. This process is applied in a way that affects the smooth muscles in the stomach, so that the nervous system or digestive system is not adversely affected by gastirc botox. However, this method may have negative effects in individuals who have muscle disease and are allergic to botox. For this reason, stomach botox is not applied to individuals with such problems. Thus, a possible danger and side effect is prevented.

What should be considered after Gastric Botox Operation?

After the application, individuals can return to their daily lives without any difficulties. However, there are a few issues that need to be considered in order for the method to be effective and more efficient. What is expected from the gastric botox method is that individuals who apply the method lose 10% to 15% of their total weight within 3-6 months. This rate and duration vary according to the metabolic age, weight status, lifestyle and nutritional habits of the individuals. No matter how effective, such aesthetic methods cannot create a miracle. It should be known that these methods can only be more effective with the effort and discipline of people.

After the Botox method is applied, patients should pay attention to their eating habits. Patients who have undergone gastric botox should stay away from the type of food called fast food, and reduce their consumption of excessively fatty and carbohydrate foods. As long as possible, patients should eat healthy and should not skip their meals. In addition, the consumption of acidic beverages will also harm the stomach. Just as consuming these foods before the application causes weight gain, it will prevent weight loss after the application.

When those who lost weight with gastric botox were examined, it was determined that those who lost weight had a regular diet and did light exercises after the application. Thus, it was possible for them to lose the weight they wanted during the 4-6 months following the gastric botox operation.

What is the difference between Gastric Botox and Gastric Balloon?

The purpose of the gastric balloon is to create satiety and provide early satiety. The same mechanism is effective in Botox. However, in the botox process, no foreign substance is placed in the stomach.
