What are the Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a titanium screw system on which a prosthesis is placed in cases of a  missing tooth. Dental implants placed in the jawbone serve as a substitute for the tooth  root. In cases of a single missing tooth, it is possible to replace the missing tooth without  touching the adjacent healthy teeth, and thanks to dental implants, it is possible to use  fixed prostheses instead of removable prostheses in cases of multiple missing teeth. In  cases of total edentulism, thanks to implants, it is possible to fixate removable  prostheses, which are difficult to use especially in the lower jaw, and which tend to  frequently come out of the mouth.

How is the Dental Implant done?

First of all, the general health status of the patients who will have the dental implant is  evaluated and oral examination is performed. The suitability of the existing bone for the  implant is evaluated with 3D radiographic images. The length and diameter of the  implant are decided by making millimetric measurements on this radiography. After the  pre-planning is done, the process stage is started under local anesthesia. Slots for  implants are opened in the jawbone and after the implants are placed in these slots, the  procedure is terminated by suturing. Sutures are removed an average of 1 week after  the operation and a control examination is performed.

Who are candidates for Dental Implants?

If you have one or more missing teeth, or have broken or decayed teeth that is not repairable, implants are usually the best option. If you’re uncomfortable with your  dentures, partial denture, or bridge, you could benefit from implant technology.

What should be considered before the Dental Implant?

Dental implant treatment is a surgical procedure. That’s why It should be performed by  the expert and experienced dentists to avoid irreversible problems after the treatment.

What are the benefits of the Dental Implant Treatment?

Dental implants are like natural teeth

The biggest advantage of the dental implant is that it restores full chewing power. Most  of the patients can’t recognize the difference between their natural teeth and the implant  tooth. They can eat with it exactly normally and they brush and floss like they have  natural teeth as well.

Dental implants can be used for a very long time

While a dental bridge may only be used around 10 years, dental implants can last a  lifetime. The implant is made from titanium and integrates with the jawbone. It’s biocompatible, meaning that it’s non-toxic and not rejected by the body. All in all it makes a  powerful replacement tooth.

Can Implant Treatment be applied to every patient?

It is inconvenient to perform the implant treatment to the patients who have  radiotherapy or smilar treatments. For this reason the Surgeon should know the medical  history of the patient.

What is the best age for Dental Implant Treatment?

Implant treatment can be applied to any patient whose growth development has been  completed and whose health condition is suitable. The average age at which bone  development is completed is 15-16 years for women and 17-18 years for men. Implant  treatment can be performed at any age after these ages. According to studies and researches, old age does not pose a risk in implant treatment. Therefore, there is no  upper age limit for implant application.

Can Smokers Have Dental Implants?

Yes, They can but it has been proven in many studies that smoking prevents bone  integration with the implant. Thus, the probabilty of the implant falling out is 2-3 times  higer than normal.
